Al Fisher Photograph
"Innovation is a solitary endeavor. It pursues a vision. This particular kind of energy circulates among artists. I enjoy seeing an artist at work, concocting new ideas, defining a new mind-set and actually achieving it, in a way that brings together a life-time of sharpened technical knowledge. I enjoy witnessing the professional experience that grinds this sudden magic.
One day, my friend and renown portrait photographer Al Fisher stopped by the workshop and told me: "I want you to come to my studio with some of those bows: I know exactly the picture I want to shoot". He pulled out one of his notebooks where he sketches in pencil the photo sets: the photo was already there, but visible only to him. It took us months to find a moment, but I will never forget the experience of seeing Al's 50 years of experience in photography at work in these few hours, full of laughter and humor that covered an intense preparation, total focus and such precision!.
The adventure was to continue when Sal Lopes printed the photograph. He made some black and white proofs, gently contrasted and over a smooth paper, that suddenly took us right to the heart of the vision
Seeing the bow through Al's eyes was tremendously interesting."
